11/07/2013: "The Gift" and Sky Diving?!!

I had a long call with Greg last night. I was chatting with Greg on Facebook and he said he had developed a new "process" and it was  a fun exercise and he wanted to try it out on me.  He asked if we could get on Skype.  I said sure and we hooked-up a bit later.

The exercise was very interesting.  He said it was part of a program he is working on called "The Gift".  The book is about "how to live your greatest life".  It is a program he has been working on for a few years now and he is very passionate about it.  I look forward to learning more about this program.

Greg said he determined that "The language we use to describe ourselves to ourselves dictates how other people experience us."

He took a friend of his through this exercise and he said he had a tremendous change after the exercise.  he said there are some similarities between me and his friend, based on what he was talking about and what I had written in my original letter to him and what we had talked about in our second session.  So he thought I could benefit from this exercise.

At the beginning of the exercise he asked me "who is Bill McManus?  Who are you man?  Who are you?"  He said don't investigate the words, just tell me.  I said:?  "

    • First and foremost I consider myself a family man
    • A passionate yet struggling entrepreneur
    • A caretaker
    • I am driven
    • I am intelligent
    • I feel trapped, going through the motions of a life just to survive.  Not truly happy in what I am doing
    • I have internal burdens that I struggle with
    • I am a funny guy with a good sense of humor
Then he said to look at this like a doctor doing a diagnosis.  He asked me how a person with these descriptives would feel about themself.  I said "I think they would feel good because they are trying to help others, be a better person, make an impact on other people's lives".

Then he asked me: "What's more important to you, making a difference in other people or being a successful entrepreneur?"

I replied "helping other people.  But being a successful entrepreneur I see is a vehicle to bring me to the next level.  And its not totally to help others.  We all want to help ourselves.  I feel if I put myself in a better place, I will be a better person to those around me.

Greg asked, "so if you became a successful entrepreneur, would you be a better contributor to those around you?"

"Yes, I would" I replied

Greg said "It is important to become a successful entrepreneur just to satisfy that value,"

I said, "it would help address many of the limitations that I currently have.  It would provide me the time free and finances to do more for and with others."  I referenced the Youth Leadership Summit that Greg participated in two weeks ago.  I told him I admired that and that is something I want to add to y list of goals.  I enjoy working with kids and would like to create something like that in this area.  Due to my limitations, it is something I am prevented from doing.

Greg asked "do you think you are prevented from doing it, or are you preventing yourself from doing it  Is it within your control or not?"

I told him "I guess it is in my control.  Anyone can do anything they want to"

Greg said, "you are right, but you don't believe that do you?"

I replied "I guess we all do have self-doubts and question our ability to do things.  Maybe it comes from the past.  I consider myself a driven man, but I always seem to fall short in my attempts"

He asked "why? Why does that happen?  Why do you always fall short?"

I struggled for an answer.  Greg told me to take my left hand and put it over my heart.  He said connect with your heart and answer the question.

I said "I guess it is lack of faith"

Greg said "right, well done, congratulations.  You were very brave.  Its a bit of a lack of faith.isn't it

I believe wholeheartedly that the realm of possibility in this life for any person is built inside of the walls of their own belief
